British Citizenship

Our specialist immigration lawyers can advise you and assist you in obtaining British Citizenship for yourself and your family members.

British passportBritish citizens have the right to live here permanently and are free to leave and re-enter the United Kingdom at any time.  If they leave the country, there is no time limit within which they must return to the UK.  There are two ways in which a person can acquire Citizenship, they are Naturalization and Registration.

The law covering Citizenship is in the British Nationality Act 1981 which came into force on 1st January 1983.   It replaced all previous laws relating to British nationality.  Further changes relating to the Citizenship rules were introduced with effect from 1st July 2006.  Even if you believe that you are eligible to apply for Citizenship and you fulfil all the requirements, as this is a very complex area, obtaining the right advice will help you to make a good application.  Please remember, there is no appeal right against a refusal of an application for Citizenship.
